Our solid wood cremation urns are crafted to honour your loved ones with timeless elegance and lasting quality. Filling a cremation urn with ashes is a personal and meaningful process, allowing you to create a secure, heartfelt tribute to the life of someone special. This guide will take you through each step with care, showing how to fill a solid wood urn from its base.

Things You’ll Need

Before you begin, gather the following items for ease and cleanliness:
  • Your solid wood cremation urn
  • A clean, soft cloth
  • A funnel
  • A screwdriver
  • A fine stick or toothpick (to guide ashes if needed)

Step 1: Prepare a Clean Workspace

Choose a quiet, clean area where you can comfortably fill your urn. Place a soft cloth or paper towel on the surface to catch any ashes that may spill. Keep your urn and tools within easy reach.

Step 2: Unscrew the Urn's Base

Turn your urn upside down and gently unscrew the base. Take care to open it slowly to avoid damaging the wood or finish. Place the base safely to the side on your cloth.

Step 3: Fill the Urn Carefully

If you wish to decant the ashes directly into the urn, use a small funnel, carefully pour the ashes into the urn’s cavity. Go slowly to avoid spillage, and use a toothpick or fine stick to guide the ashes through the funnel if needed. Or you can carefully place the bag of ashes into the urn and avoid decanting.

      Step 4: Secure the Base

Once the urn is filled, gently screw the base back on, ensuring it is secure. For additional security, you may apply a small amount of superglue onto the screws (male thread) of the base before screwing it on, allowing it to dry fully before handling.

Step 5: Place in a Meaningful Location

Your urn is now ready to be placed in a location of significance. Display it in a place that brings comfort and reflects the memory of your loved one.
