How to Fill Your Self-Fill Cremation Jewellery: A Step-by-Step Guide

Losing a loved one is one of life’s most challenging experiences, and self-fill cremation jewellery is a beautiful way to carry their memory, allowing you to safely hold a small portion of ashes or another meaningful element within a keepsake. This guide walks you through the process with gentle care and step-by-step instructions to make filling your cremation jewellery a simple, heartfelt experience.

Things You'll Need

Before you begin, gather the following items for ease and cleanliness:

  • Your cremation jewellery piece
  • A small funnel (included in your order)
  • A fine stick (included in your order).
  • A screwdriver (included in your order)
  • A clean, flat workspace

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace

Create a calm, clean workspace where you can focus without distractions. Place a soft cloth or paper towel on the surface to help catch any spilled ashes and to protect your jewellery. You can also secure the jewellery in place with the help of blue tack to further prevent any movement. Make sure you have all your tools within reach, as well as your cremation jewellery.

Step 2: Open the Jewellery’s Compartment

Carefully locate the opening of your cremation jewellery. Some pieces may unscrew via the chain loop, while others might require a small screwdriver to access the compartment. Open the compartment slowly, ensuring that the area remains clean and you don't slip and damage the jewellery.

Step 3: Gently Add the Ashes

Using the small funnel, gently pour a tiny amount of ashes into the jewellery’s compartment. To ensure the ashes flow smoothly, use the metal stick provided or a toothpick to guide them through the funnel if needed. It’s usually recommended to fill only 80% of the compartment to ensure the screw or lid can close securely.

Step 4: Secure and Seal the Compartment

Once you’ve filled the compartment, close it gently. If your jewellery piece comes with a threaded cap or screw, ensure it’s twisted in tightly. For added security, you can apply a tiny drop of superglue to the screw (e.g. the male thread) Wait for the adhesive to fully dry before wearing or handling the piece.

Step 5: Wear or Present Your Jewellery

Your cremation jewellery is now ready to wear or present as a meaningful gift to a loved one. Handling it with care will help maintain its quality over time. When you’re not wearing it, store it in a safe place to keep it protected.

Tips for Maintaining Your Cremation Jewellery

  • Avoid Water Exposure: Try to keep the jewellery dry, we don't recommend wearing your jewellery in the shower or swimming pool.

  • Regular Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe down the jewellery periodically, preserving its shine.

  • Store Carefully: When not wearing the piece, store it in a jewellery box or pouch to avoid scratches.

A Lasting Memory Close to Your Heart

Filling cremation jewellery is a deeply personal and meaningful process. By following these steps, you can ensure that your piece remains a lasting tribute to your loved one, providing comfort and remembrance. Whether you’re filling it for yourself or as a gift, this jewellery offers a tangible way to keep memories close.
